RS160 Exploring Christian Mysticism – Loyola Marymount Univ. Fall 1976
This course was my first religious studies course and first one with Professor Fr. Herbert Ryan, SJ. It was also my first exposure to the academic study of religion, Rudolf Otto’s The Idea of the Holy. I was surprised at how much my Jesus-Freak experiences lined up with what Otto described in his book and non-traditional understanding of these experiences. I immediately came to understand that the world (and universe) was far more deep and vast than I could imagine. I left my provincial understanding of the Catholic Church and Christianity itself behind. Class notes posted below the research journal and other documents. Enjoy (2017-10-27).
